Point of View

The point of view of Son of a Trickster is entirely third-person. Jared is the main character, and the reader gets full insight into his mind and psychology despite the fact that the novel is in the third person. Jared is a 16-year-old student who is attempting to navigate the world around him despite the fact that he lives in a small town where many of the people have significant problems of their own and take them out on others around them. This includes most acutely his mother, who behaves erratically and unpredictably because of unresolved mental illness and drug addiction. She loves Jared, but she cannot control her behavior sometimes.
