The Importance of Perspective

The ability to see situations and relationships from different perspectives is important in understanding the feelings of others. Billie, the female narrator of this novel, learns that she has viewed life through her own perspective but not always from the perspective of the people around her.

The novel is written in first person from Billie's limited perspective. She tries to be honest and does not seem to withhold information, even when it puts Billie in a poor light. Despite her desire to be completely honest, Billie has a limited perspective of situations and events. She does not know how other characters feel unless they say so. One example of this is seen in Billie's newfound relationship with Mason Davis. Billie's first impressions of Mason are not entirely positive.
