Point of View

"Skinned" is written in the first person point of view; the narrator is a 17-year-old girl named Lia Kahn, and all of the action in the novel is seen through her eyes. The narrator presents events, situations, and conversations as though they have just recently happened to her; there is no reference to events that are yet to come at any point in the story. Although there are some paragraphs that describe major world events, various groups or organizations, and scientific principles for the purpose of clarification, these are few and far between and all "facts" are presented as they are understood by the narrator. There are no major flashback scenes, nor are there any scenes in which the narrator is not present and at the center of the action.
