Chapters 1 - 4. Summary

In Chapter 1, Selena finishes performing her scene on the stage and returns backstage to congratulate everyone on a job well done. She and her friends are excited that the play's run is over and talk about who is going to the cast party that night. Selena notices that her childhood friend, Jake, looks tired, but she doesn't have a chance to ask him if anything is wrong. Mr. Riordan, the drama club teacher, announces that the spring play will be Romeo and Juliet. Selena's ex-boyfriend, Danny, tells her she is sure to get the part. Her friend Katy, a member of the set crew, agrees. Mr. Riordan tells them a scout from the drama department at Northwestern University will be there. Selena is excited. She needs a scholarship in order to attend college, but she doesn't have her hopes up. Katy...
