Chapter 15 Summary

Finn yells at Claudia to get down and asks if she is hurt. Neither are hurt. They make an inventory of their weapons. Claudia says it's the steel wolves that are ambushing them, but Finn says that it isn't them because they could have killed him the previous night when he found a steel wolf's head by his head when he was lying in the grass. Claudia and Finn wave down peasants they see walking alongside their wagon. The peasants tell Finn and Claudia to follow them. Finn lies to the peasants saying they are a maiden and stable boy. The peasants lead them back to their cottage, so Claudia realizes what it's like to live as a poor person outside of the royal court. Claudia asks about a figurine in the corner of the cottage. The peasant says it's the nine-fingered one...
