The Fifth Day: Salvage the Bones Summary

Esche enters the bathroom the next morning to find Skeetah inside, checking on cuts he got from yesterday's chase. He was badly cut when he escaped through the broken window. She helps him wrap up the cut, and he remarks that she ran slow the day before as they made their escape. When he leaves, she examines her belly in the mirror and realizes that her pregnancy is beginning to show. Daddy has taken a break from gathering piles of scrap in the yard, and is trying to get his dump truck to work because he believes there will be a lot of money to be made from someone with such a working truck after the storm.
