Alina

Alina Starkov is the protagonist and heroine of the novel. Alina is born in the valley Dva Stolba and is raised in the orphanage at Karamzin by the orphanage’s matron, Ana Kunya. Alina does not remember anything before being brought to the orphanage. She was quite lonely until a boy named Mal was brought to the orphanage. The two children quickly became close friends and Alina, although only a child, instantly developed romantic feelings for him. They both hid from the Grisha testers when they arrived to test the orphans so that they could be sure to remain together. Alina represses her powers for years, which causes her to feel sick and weak.

However, when Mal is nearly killed in the Fold, Alina uses her dormant powers to summon light and save him, thus revealing herself as the legendary Sun Summoner who was destined to destroy the...
