Maya

Though her age is never mentioned, Maya is a young woman still finding her way in New York and in life. Coming from an Indian background, she deals with the expectations of her family and faces their disappointment due to her life choices and academic interests. Growing up, she was never able to satisfy her parents, who pinned their hopes on her older brother, Raj. Her emotional relationship with her family is limited and tenuous, as she mentions never being close to her father growing up, thinking for a long time his name was simply "Dad."
