As the chapter "Premonitions" begins, Antonia is sixteen years old and is extremely beautiful while Kylie is rather plain at the age of twelve. The two sisters do not get along and Antonia always says something rude to Kylie whenever they are in the same room. In the neighborhood where Sally now lives, she is a secretary at a school and is well respected. She has taken the job so that she can have the same hours as the girls and strives to have a normal life. Sally finds that she is on edge lately as if she is waiting for disaster.
