Labyrinth

Most of the novel takes place in a mysterious, endless labyrinth. The protagonist, Piranesi, has no memories that take place outside of the labyrinth, and so he believes that the labyrinth constitutes the entire world. Its architecture is described to the reader as being similar to that of Ancient Greek architecture. It has many rooms and hallways, as well as statues wall carvings/paintings. The labyrinth also has ecology, including fish, birds, vegetation, water, and tides. Piranesi subsists on these sources of food. He only ever sees one other person in the labyrinth, whom he refers to as the Other.
