Isaac dives into the material brought to him by Teafortwo. A bibliophile and natural scholar, Issac is aware of how little he knows about biology, much less biological flight. Ivan stops at the Moon's Daughters pub to have a pint of ale and say hello to Red Kate, the proprietress. Isaac spies his friend, Gedrecsechet (Ged), vodyanoi or head librarian at the New Crobuzon Palgolak Library, a rich resource that equals the university library. Isaac asks Ged what he knows about the Garuda Bird-people. "Completely egalitarian and individualistic," Ged replies.
