Deserted Farm

The Deserted Farm is the place where Pax, Bristle, and Runt live after the war is over. With no humans there, the foxes feel safe. Pax, however, has difficulty providing food for his family because so many young animals are dying as a result of the poisoned water.

Vola’s Farm

Peter lives with Vola at her farm because he does not think that his grandfather really loves him. Even though Peter has built himself a cabin on Vola’s property, he does not feel that it is his home. When Vola offers to put some of the property in Peter’s name, Peter rebels. He does not want to think of anyplace as his home or have any kind of emotional connection with anyone or anything.
