Pax, Journey Home Overview

 Pax, Journey Home, by Sara Pennypacker, is the sequel to the children's novel titled Pax. The second installment tells the story of Peter’s reunion with Pax and his discovery that it is safe to love again. Since Peter’s parents are dead and he has been forced to abandon the fox he adopted, Peter decides he no longer wants to love, because it can bring so much pain. As a way to protect himself from loving and being loved, Peter lives alone in his parents’ house that is located in a town abandoned as a result of the war. An unexpected surprise leads Peter to discover he is capable of loving again. Themes in the novel include the stages of grief and letting go, the power of forgiveness, and the importance of water as a resource.
