Summary

Chapter 11 opens with the following to-do list entry: “Get there (there's nothing else I can do).” Emily drops Patina off at school. Maddy's class is having a field trip to a farm and Emily is taking her there. As Patina gets out of the car, she jokingly asks if Maddy is getting in the front, but Emily refuses to consider it. Inside the building, Patina feels differently now that she knows Emily used to clean the building. Becca is waiting to tell Patina that she found an interesting quote from Kahlo that says “A constellation that exists only on paper is useless.” The girls agree the meaning escapes them, but Becca is clearly amazed that Kahlo made the statement about space.
