Summary

In Chapter 33, Karyn has to go to the bathroom at the last minute, meaning Melody is going onto the field alone. Jocelyn is going to push Melody's wheelchair while Melody kicks. Jocelyn is strong and fast. A balloon pops, sending Melody back to the beginning. She can hear other kids cheering for her. She looks around at all the other kids playing, screaming, and sweating. She thinks about all the times she has watched other kids playing games at school, never invited to play because of her limitations. She realizes that she had never considered she could play. She winds up making a surprise kick that lands the balloon in her lap – a feat worth 50 points. She feels some other players are trying to steal it so holds it as Jocelyn pushes her away.
