Kissinger's Role as Politician

Henry A. Kissinger (1923 - ) is the author of On China, a work of non-fiction detailing more than forty years of involvement with foreign policy on China. Kissinger was the forerunner in establishing a modern relationship with China in the 1970s under President Richard Nixon. Kissinger was born in Germany and raised in Manhattan, in a Jewish immigrant neighborhood. After attending Harvard University, Kissinger, a Republican, became involved in politics.

Kissinger was a major player in foreign policy between 1969 and 1977. He reopened a US-Sino dialogue and subsequent relationship and also played an important role in the talks with the Soviets before the fall of Russia.

Kissinger's political roles included acting as the National Security advisor and then the Secretary of State under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford.

Kissinger is a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.
