Summary

The story begins with nine-year-old Roselyn helping her adoptive mother, Misa, in the kitchen. She is introduced as a diligent but emotionally burdened child, haunted by nightmares of the fire that killed her parents. Misa asks Roselyn if she would ever return to her birth family.
