Odd Thomas

Odd Thomas is the narrator of the book, writing it as a catharsis. Odd is telling the story of how he saw shadow-like beings he calls bodachs swarming around the people in his hometown of Pico Mundo, causing him to investigate the possibility of a future tragedy. Odd has the unique gift of not only being able to see these bodachs, but also being able to see dead people. Odd often helps dead people finish what they have left undone in the living world so they can cross over. When Odd sees bodachs, he knows something tragic is going to take place. He often attempts to find out what this tragedy will be so he can prevent it from happening. This time, Odd sees more bodachs than he has ever seen before and is concerned something huge is going to take place.
