Summary

When Chapter 25 opens, Nora hears Sharon downstairs, talking. Nora descends the stairs and sees Sharon and Mrs. K (whom she now refers to as Donna) kissing. They inform Nora that they have been in a relationship for ten years and that they are planning to move in together. Donna leaves, and Nora tells Sharon that she found the photographs of their family. Sharon tells Nora the story of her marriage to Mr. Stuart, how it had been happy at first but how, later on, Mr. Stuart began having bipolar episodes. Sharon told Nora that her father maintained emotional balance for a while, until he began bringing the girls on reckless adventures. Nora then remembers an incident when she almost drowned swimming out to a little island off Scupper, an island that Lily and her father had been strong enough to reach but which...
