Summary

Chapter 22 opens with Nora writing a letter to Lily. Nora and Amelia have a discussion wherein Nora asks Amelia if she has been in treatment, and she tells her she has. Nora then sees Gloria, who gives her a cold reception, initially, but then the two discuss Bobby. Gloria tells Nora that, in Bobby’s version of events, Nora was suicidal and broke his heart. Later on at the houseboat, while Audrey and Poe are visiting, arrangements are made for Poe to work in the boatyard and for Nora and Sully to go on a date.

In Chapter 23, the date plan changes and Sully and Nora decide to go to Sharon’s, as Nora had already committed to dinner. Before the date, Nora walks to the boatyard and talks to Audrey and Poe, about whom Luke comments lustily “age of consent in Maine...
