Summary

In Sections 13 and 14, Adichie looks through many papers, photos, and videos that bring her father back to life. She is sometimes overcome with emotion, but it is worth the pain to feel her father is near. She also reminisces about the fact that her father did not have the sense of entitlement that many Igbo parents have. Her father was always respectful of his children's boundaries and cheered them on through their many achievements. In Section 15, Adichie tells the story of the courtship of her father, James, and her mother, Grace. Grace loved the quietness of James and soon said that she would marry no one else. James loved Grace deeply, and Adichie says that she called her father DOS or Defender of Spouse because he was so loyal to and supportive of her mother.
