Chapters 27-35 Summary

Ian is up early the next morning, Wednesday, and riding at the Happy Valley Race Track and helping to exercise his horses with his trainer, Alexi Ivanovitch Travkin. Ian leaves and Alexi looks at the note he was handed by a messenger. It tells him that there is news of Nestorova. He pales at this information because no one knew of his past in Russia. The note requests a meeting that afternoon at the Green Dragon Restaurant.

Richard Kwang, also at the race track, negotiates a loan from his cousin Smiler Ching. They also decide to make a deal with Gornt's jockey. If they take their horse out of the race, then they can make some money on the two other favorites. Smiler Ching tells him that Vincenzo Banastasio will arrive soon. He calls him a High Tiger of the White...
