Summary

Foster enters and tells Hirst it’s time for his morning walk. Hirst claims that he can’t go because he is too busy. Hirst asks Briggs to fetch another bottle of champagne for Spooner and Briggs exits. Hirst reiterates the suggestion that he is too busy to go for a walk, claiming that he needs to write an essay but he has forgotten what he is supposed to be writing about. Spooner offers to help him. He says he could be Hirst’s secretary. Foster interjects, informing Spooner that he, Foster, is Hirst’s secretary. Briggs re-enters with the champagne and listens at the door. Spooner offers to go through Hirst’s photo album with him and help him put names to faces. Foster and Briggs both interject to insist that the faces in the album are “nameless” (72) and will remain...
