Summary
Act Two takes place the following morning. As the act opens, Spooner is alone onstage. He tries to open the door but it is locked. He sits down and shivers. The door is unlocked and Briggs enters. He informs Spooner that he has been sent to ask whether Spooner is hungry. Briggs informs Spooner that Hirst’s financial adviser has cancelled their planned meeting for the morning but that Foster had already made breakfast for the financial adviser so there is food going to waste. Spooner agrees to have to food. Briggs exits and quickly re-enters with the food and offers Spooner a glass of champagne to have with it, which he accepts. As Spooner eats, Briggs pulls up a chair and watches him. Briggs embarks on a long monologue about when he met Foster, which involved Briggs trying to give Foster...
