Summary

In Chapter 6, Kiara wakes to the sound of Trevor splashing in the pool. She remembers Dee giving birth to him at home. All the women in the Regal-Hi helped, and Dee begged for her crack pipe throughout labor. Kiara tells Marcus he needs to get a job and then walks Trevor to the bus stop. They pass a basketball court, where Trevor has been betting on games to win money to feed himself. Two girls invite Kiara and Trevor to play, and Trevor is thrilled when they win. Afterward, Trevor tells Kiara that Dee has not been home and Vernon has been knocking on their door demanding rent.
