Summary

In Chapter 6, the narrator introduces Cox, Beauchamps, and Cole and lets readers know that Deese is staying with them. Cox and Cole like to read. They wake up to the sound of machine guns as the police raid the house next door. The group quickly gathers some of their belongings, including some cocaine, and escapes. When they are a distance from the house, they assess the situation and decide to go to Las Vegas. Cox expresses worry about her involvement. She does not think that Las Vegas is far enough away, and she does not want to live in Beauchamp’s trailer. When they stop for gas, Cole suggests that Cox can ride with him as she is annoying Beauchamps. Beauchamps also decides that Cox and Cole will pretend to be a couple, and they will rent some houses.
