Karen Reyes

Karen Reyes is middle school-aged girl of Latin American descent. She is the main protagonist of the story and her emotional journey is of paramount importance to the plot. Extremely confident of her own personal style, Karen ignores the ridicule she faces from other children at school about her proclivities. This includes her love of old horror movies and horror comics as well as her insistence on wearing a trench coat and fedora hat when she is acting as a detective. Her love of monsters is accented constantly by her drawing herself as a wolf-life creature rather than as a human girl. She was previously best friends with a girl at school named Missy, who abandoned her to hang with the popular kids. Karen later admits (to herself and her brother) that she is in love with Missy and a homosexual.
