Los Angeles

The novel takes place in Los Angeles, which is the most populous city in California, and the second most populous city in the United States. Rachel is originally from New Jersey. She moved to Los Angeles after college in order to pursue her dream of being a stand-up comedian. To make a living, she worked as a waitress for a short period of time, but now she works at a talent management company.

Yogurt Shop

The first encounter between Rachel and Miriam takes place at a yogurt shop in Los Angeles. Miriam’s parents own several yogurt shops, and Miriam occasionally works in them.
