Chapter 17 Summary

Darius is delighted to see Pitt, at the business end of a gun. Darius is still smarting from the beating he took at the hands of Pitt and Giordino the day before and intends to extract his pound of flesh. He immediately fires at Pitt, putting a bullet through his thigh, barely missing the bone, but causing Pitt extreme agony. Von Till directs the divers to drop their equipment to the bottom of the water and climb up onto the submarine. As he gives the order, lights are put on and the dimensions of the cave become clear for the first time, about the size of an entire football field.
