Summary

In pages 62 - 120, the narrator guesses that people see her and Ivan as unhappy. The narrator dismisses this notion. One night, she tells him she is going to write him a book. Ivan hopes it will have "a happy ending" (63).

The narrator tries doing things for Ivan but realizes she cannot "keep Ivan chained or shackled" (65). She is tired of Ivan treating their relationship like a game, especially because Ivan always tells her she is incapable of doing so. He insists that without "the Game," their relationship "won't work" (66).

Despite their issues, Ivan’s is the only name that fits with the narrator’s (67). Even Malina's name is not exactly correct with her name. Though she takes care that Malina and Ivan "don't encroach upon each other," she wonders how they see each other (68).
