Summary

In Chapter 24, Yasmin visited with Mrs. Antonova, one of the patients, after the others were asleep. Mrs. Antonova, who is 96 years old, admitted to Yasmin that she was ready to die. Yasmin stayed to keep her company and Mrs. Antonova sensed she was having trouble with her relationship. Yasmin thought about the unpleasant conversation she had with Joe about what Niamh told her. She believed they would never have to have that sort of conversation again.

Mrs. Antonova said she was a 16-year-old when she married her first husband, a 53-year-old. She had no say in the marriage. She believed her father owed the man money. However, her first husband turned out to be the love of her life.
