Summary

In Lie 23, Linda sees Chuck approaching her and her friends outside of Bailey’s Drugstore. Chuck searches for Linda. Bo Nash punches Chuck. Several other white boys join the fight. Linda spots Sarah. Mr. Bailey comes out of the store and scares the boys away. Linda goes to sit beside Sarah and Chuck on the ground. Blood flows out of the side of Chuck’s head. Sarah leaves Linda watching Chuck while she runs across the street to call the hospital. An ambulance arrives and paramedics take Chuck away on a stretcher. Sarah asks Linda to go into the drugstore and buy a pack of cough drops for her brother. She invites Linda back to her house so that she can stay informed about Chuck’s recovery. Back at Sarah’s house, Mrs. Dunbar pours iced tea for Linda. Sarah’s mother...
