Point of View

Leigh Howard the Ghosts of Simmons-Pierce Manor is written in third person from the perspective of the titular heroine and protagonist, Leigh Howard. The reader has access to everything Leigh sees, hears, and thinks, but is left to draw their own conclusions about other characters based on what Leigh sees and hears. Leigh’s interpretation of the events around her and what she sees are filtered through her own knowledge and prior experience, which is then explained clearly to the reader through exposition. For example, when Leigh first arrives at the manor she notices the guards in front of the manor, and identifies what guns they are using, and then reflexively notes that the reason she knows this is because her father had been a police officer. “Her dad had been a cop and he taught her more about firearms than most adults know” (1).
