Summary

The novel starts from Leah Burke’s first person perspective as she talks with her friends and fellow band members Anna and Morgan about a set list. The book opens with the sentence: “I don’t mean to be dramatic, but God save me from Morgan picking our set list” (1). They are in the band room at their high school, Creekwood High School, in Georgia. Leah argues they should not play Bon Jovi or Journey, especially not “Don’t Stop Believin'.” Morgan says everyone loves it but Leah counters that people also love meth. Anna and Morgan concede and say they need Taylor and Nora to make a decision so they decide to end practice. Leah starts to play the drums on her own while she waits for her Mom to pick her up.
