Beacon Hill

Beacon Hill is the place where Ivy grew up with her parents. She was unhappy there and ran away when she learned that her parents intended to send her away to have her baby and then have the baby put up for adoption.

Mia later visits Beacon Hill in an attempt to connect with her grandmother. Mia cannot imagine her mother living in the house in which she grew up. She also cannot imagine what life must have been like for her mother with a woman like Mrs. Jacob as her mother.

The Library

The library in Blackwell is a point of salvation for Mia. She visits this library each time she has an opportunity to check out books. It is at this library that Mia is befriended by Sarah. After Mia escapes the Community, she goes to the library and calls Sarah to help her.
