Summary

Chapter 37 opens as Dasani is watching the movie Unbroken in the Hershey School theater. Then, her name is called over the intercom. Two ACS workers need to speak with her. It is Columbus Day weekend and hardly anyone is around, especially not the grown ups that she has come to trust. The ACS workers tell Dasani that her siblings have been placed in foster care. Dasani is distraught and cries. She then tells them that she is fine, and they leave. Dasani is not fine; she starts acting out and fighting almost immediately. Chanel is incredulous that the ACS workers opted to tell Dasani about her siblings' impending foster care before she, Dasani's own mother, could.
