Water and the ocean symbolize reflection and contemplation. Dannie thinks of her family’s beach trips when looking out to the water in Dumbo, and finds peace in the waves of Amagansett and Los Angeles.

Law

Law represents the positive aspects of Dannie’s logical and organized perspective. She relies on order and causality in her work as a lawyer and truly enjoys her career, believing the documents she drafts are “like poetry, but poetry with outcome, poetry with concrete meaning—with actionable power” (10).
