Summary

Between semesters, Nina goes to stay at her parents’ home in Maine. She communicates with Kailash by mail. Kailash begins to feel a sense of emotional distance growing between himself and Nina. Kailash eventually becomes suspicious that Nina is not in Maine, but is actually in Pittsburgh, the hometown of her ex-boyfriend, Jonathan. On the phone, Nina confirms this suspicion, but she says that she is only there because Jonathan’s mother is dying. Kailash remains somewhat suspicious of this story. After Kailash and Nina have a fierce argument in front of friends, they break up but then resume their relationship soon after. They decide to take a trip to Yellowstone National Park.
