Summary

The scene opens in Kiguunda’s home, which has transformed since the last scene. It now has a lot of new furniture and decorations, including a board with the inscription: “Christ is the head…” (91). Kiguunda and Wangeci are in the process of bringing in more new furniture, and are very excited. They try on their wedding clothes and practice walking down the aisle. A church choir joins them, singing a song about the strength of Jesus. They ask an invisible priest to bless their marriage. Kiguunda wonders aloud when they will start receiving presents, and Wangeci shares her excitement about the cakes that they have at Christian weddings.

The choir is interrupted by a car honking, but Kiguunda and Wangeci are too absorbed in their imaginary ceremony to notice. Gathoni enters the house and is at first confused by her parents’ strange behavior...
