Summary

In "Loafing Along Death Valley Trails," Claire boards a flight from Reno to Vegas. When she gets to the Vegas airport, her flight is canceled. She buys a book and a pair of Uggs, and gets drunk. She does not want to be stuck in Vegas, but decides to use the time to see if there is a place for her somewhere in the world (228).

Claire drives around Vegas. She goes to a soaking pool. She reflects on the way time disappears in the desert. She wakes up the next morning in the backseat of the car "in the bathhouse parking lot" (231). She visits a diner before returning to the airport for her "rescheduled flight" (231).
