Summary
At age eleven, Lucy begins arranging her face in bathroom mirrors to appear more feminine, and wearing her mother's clothing. She adopts a series of fantasies about moving away and being able to live as a woman.
In high school, Lucy begins to consume marijuana frequently. She experiments with other drugs, such as cocaine and psychedelics. Tripping on LSD amplifies Lucy's gender anxiety and causes her great paranoia.
When one of Lucy's colleagues at Bard passes away from brain cancer, Lucy becomes close with one of the professor's students who delivers the eulogy: Leor. Leor is a young trans woman at Bard who has chosen to keep her traditionally male Hebrew name. through Leor's friendship, Lucy learns a lot about trans culture and the practicalities of transitioning. Lucy thinks of Leor as her "trans mother."
