Goromonzi, Zimbabwe

Goromonzi is Nyamayaro's true home. Gogo raised Nyamayaro in Goromonzi from the time she was an infant to eight years of age. Goromozi is a communal farming village that is highly dependent on seasonal rains. When these rains do not come, its inhabitants can starve. The community full of ambuyas (aunts) and sekurus (uncles) works together to try to avoid starvation, but many times there is just not enough food for all the hungry mouths. Goromonzi has two forests nearby as well. The Good Forest is a place to wander and hunt, but the Hyena Forest should be avoided at all costs because of its many vicious hyenas.
