Summary

In Chapter 23, Tilla runs through the storm to the small blue house. She knocks and Miss Addie finally opens the door but is clearly unwelcoming. Hessan interrupts, saying Miss Addie should go lie down. He obviously knows the story that is circulating – that Tilla willingly had sex with Jahvan. Tilla tries to tell him the truth but he is not willing to consider her side of the story or forgive her. He says the hurricane is coming and Tilla should go home. She feels the hurricane has “already passed through me” (304). He slams the door and she hears the lock click into place. She runs without real direction.

In Chapter 24, the electricity goes off the following day. Tyson is traveling back from Kingston and Tilla worries what Herma and Adele will tell him. Tyson calls, saying Tilla and Mia will be flying back...
