Summary

Chapter 1 launched Part 1, called “The Hollow.” Bryce Quinlan greeted her best friend Danika Fendyr, who shifted from her wolf form to her human form at the entrance to Griffin Antiquities, a gallery where Bryce worked. Danika asked to leave her sword in the gallery for a little while. Bryce worried about what would happen if her boss, Jesiba Roga, a 400-year-old enchantress, found out. Bryce recalled a few days ago when Danika and her had gotten high on mirthroot. She complained about a tattoo that was sore; she had gotten it recently with Danika, who got a matching one, when she was drunk.
