Summary

Chapter 7 “I’m Gonna Keep My Sheep Suit On” switches to third person and find Douglas arriving at the Tongue & Buckle, a pub, for a Council meeting. The other members of the Council are Brannoc, Brid’s father and fey hound; Kell, a vampire; Ariana, a fury; and Pello, a satyr. They vote on petitions and it’s clear that Douglas views himself above all the others. Douglas asks Brannoc whether Brid will eventually take Brannoc’s place on the Council as well.

Chapter 8 “Hold Me Closer, Necromancer” returns to Sam and the first person narrative. He arrives at the zoo and remembers going there with his family, including his stepdad Haden. Sam reveals that he took his stepdad’s last name of LaCroix and that his biological father’s surname is Hatfield. He observes the animals in the cages and finds a...
