Summary
In Part II, Chapter 7, David starts spending most nights at Regina’s. They continue telling each other stories when they are together. One night, he tells her that her baptism reminded her of a time he witnessed a miracle during college. His mom called to say that their pastor Brother Charlies “had died and been coaxed back to life” at church (100). The story is reminiscent of a time he and his friends encountered David Blaine on the street. Blaine’s magic trick awed David. Regina shares stories, too, particularly about her Ghanaian father and Black American mom. Then they have sex.
David used to like that Song of Songs openly discussed “sex and love” (107). The Bible seemed to say sex was an art and could bring one closer to God. For years, David tried to remain celibate because of his faith...
