Point of View

The point of view of Godshot is first person singular, exclusively through the eyes and feelings of Lacey May Herd, who narrates the novel and is also the protagonist. Lacey May’s viewpoint is the most significant, as she is the protagonist, and is involved in every event that takes place within the novel. Lacey’s first-person perspective provides insight on how she was influenced to follow Pastor Vern and the Gifts of the Spirit Church, while also creating empathy for her character.

Due to her childish perspective and indoctrination into the church, Lacey May’s narration is not always reliable. While she depicts the other character’s speeches and events straightforwardly, she often cannot interpret them accurately, due to her preoccupation with the absence of Louise and struggle to see Vern’s hypocrisy.
