The Lee's Apartment

The Lee's apartment in London is where much of the novel's narrative present occurs. Harriet, Margot, and Perdita live here together. It is also the place where Harriet frequently expects Gretel to reappear, constantly sensing her friend moving up the stairs or approaching her door.

The apartment is also where Harriet finds Perdita's unconscious body after she takes the powder which transports her to Druhástrana. Once Perdita largely recovers, the women return to the apartment. From Perdita's bedside, Harriet tells the story of her past life in Druhástrana and Whitby.

The Kercheval House

The Kercheval House is the place where Harriet and Margot arrive after leaving Druhástrana. Owned and operated by Aristide, Ambrose, Tamar, and Kenzilea, the Lees experience little freedom while living here. Though they have just escaped Clio Kercheval's orbit, Harriet and Margot find themselves once again entrapped by Kercheval operations...
