Summary

In “Auditions,” the class took a spelling test and then Ms. Udell announced it was time for tryouts. Both fourth grade classes would be able to audition, and half from each class would be cast. Everyone who auditioned would get a role. The girls would audition reading Charlotte’s lines first, and then the boys would audition reading Wilbur’s lines. The boys were given blue cards with a number, and the girls were given pink cards with a number. George was given the last boy’s number. While George waited, Kelly passed her a kind and encouraging note. When George was finally called out to the hall, she began to recite Charlotte’s lines, but Ms. Udell interrupted her and asked if she was joking. George said she wanted to be Charlotte, but Ms. Udell said that there were too many girls...
