Structure

The structure of Furious Hours is divided into three parts. The first part, The Reverend, details the life of Willie Maxwell. Cep spend little time on the childhood of Maxwell, focusing rather on the details of the murders he committed. She does, however, use this first part to give the reader a background on Coosa County and the surrounding areas. In The Reverend, Cep outlines the murders of those close to Maxwell and discusses the insurance industry in America, the primary motivating factor of Maxwell’s actions. The first part of Furious Hours ends with the death of Maxwell, and this paves the way for her second major character, Tom Radney. Part Two of Furious Hours is titled The Lawyer, and follows the political career of Tom Radney up until he becomes the attorney for Robert Burns, the man charged with killing Maxwell.
